Personal Statement
I specialize in work with individuals, couples and families experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, confusion or conflict related to life transitions, relationship challenges, loss and substance use. I offer my clients the opportunity to create a more peaceful, hopeful and satisfying life. My approach is practical, solution oriented, insightful and sensitive. I recognize that the individual or couple present in the office belongs to an interconnecting web of family and associates who can be, at times, both part of the problem and part of the solution.
Over the years my clients have remarked to me that they enjoy my warmth, my insights on human behavior, my sense of humor and, most importantly, my belief in them and their ability to rewrite the narrative of their lives. In my 30+ years as a therapist, I have worked with diverse populations and a multiplicity of life challenges. With everyone, no matter his or her circumstance, I strive to create a safe, trusting and productive relationship. I believe that therapy is a creative process that allows individuals to free themselves from unsatisfying life patterns or to rebound from a life event that is "too much to handle" alone.
Most people enter therapy with some reserve, not always certain what they seek, but sense that change is needed. The first contact is often the most difficult but is, ultimately, the most important.
