Personal Statement

This is an overview of my experience and conceptions that shape my methods of treatment.

In my experience of over 25 years as a psychotherapist, I find that people come to me with emotional pain as a result of psychiatric disorders as well as from relationships; familial or otherwise. I provide a place for you to have time that is safe and supportive to talk about these issues, your experiences and to help you understand and make decisions about how to proceed with a particular problem.

In my relationships with my clients confidentiality is maintained and I do not judge or criticize. I provide a professional and objective ear with feedback, observations and understanding.

The therapeutic process should be healing, affirming and clarifying. A big part of the healing process is your recognition of your strengths, your worth and your own intelligence and good sense. It has been my experience that these realizations are a boost to self-esteem.

I am influenced by my preferred treatment models but am eclectic; fitting my style with the needs and preferences of the people I work with.

I have found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to be helpful, addressing the mind and it's influence on behavior, including tools such as goal setting and examination of who you are, what you want, and how to go about getting it.

For a number of years, I have studied and have experience with meditation as a calming experience as well as an opportunity to examine the mind and the effect of thoughts or cognitions on emotions and behavior. I can teach and use these tools with those who are interested.

I have daytime as well as nighttime appointment times available.

I am on the networks of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, United Behavioral Health, Managed Health Network, Value Options, Magellan Health Services, Horizon Behavioral Health and Medicare.
